The Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School (SMNS) in Greenwich, CT, offers a rewarding, one-of-a-kind educational experience for families with children pre-school and younger. While our programs are guided by Jewish values, we welcome families of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds.
SMNS was founded in 1991 by Temple Sholom congregant Selma Maisel. It was Selma’s dream to create a pre-school that would provide a strong foundation for a lifetime love of learning. Today, we keep this vision central to our program by building skills and knowledge in an environment that holds kindness, mutual respect and cooperation as important values.
FULL-DAY AND PART-DAY OPTIONS
In the fall of 2018, the Selma Maisel Nursery School expanded to include a full-day option for children as young as six weeks old through pre-school. Both full-day and part-day programs (part-day is open to 2’s, 3’s and 4’s) are led by experienced and professional teachers and staff, and support an individualized approach to education and care.
At SMNS, we strive to stay on the cutting edge of early childhood education. Over the past two years, we have added unique learning spaces including a dedicated STEAM Lab, Gymnastics Studio, raised garden, and an outdoor STEAM playspace. Children also visit our Discovery Room weekly to learn about and meet new animals from the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, and take daily trips outside to the multi-level state-of-the-art playground with its own child-size town.
SHABBAT, HOLIDAYS & JEWISH VALUES
Children at SMNS enjoy the wonderful richness of Shabbat, Jewish holidays and traditions through music, stories and creative activities. We often draw on the resources of Temple Sholom’s clergy and professional staff, and all of our families are encouraged to participate in the Temple’s programming geared for young children and their parents.
ITSY BITSY PLAYGROUP
Temple Sholom offers a free weekly playgroup on Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am for children under 18 months as a way to connect with others in the community and to become familiar with all that the nursery school has to offer. Infants/toddlers benefit from meeting new faces and enjoying music, motor play and story time in a group setting. Parents bond over the joys and challenges of parenthood and participate in casual discussions relevant to Jewish or Interfaith families.
