High Holiday Services 2011/5772

Dear Member:

Temple Sholom’s clergy, lay leadership and professional staff would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones an early "Shanah tovah u'metukah --a good, sweet New Year!”

The Temple’s staff has been hard at work since the beginning of summer to ensure that your experience of these coming Days of Awe are meaningful, and to create a High Holy Day experience that fulfills your spiritual needs. As we have done in the past, we will automatically provide High Holiday tickets to Temple Sholom members in good standing which includes, under our by-laws, individuals, married couples and their children under the age of 25.

What is a member in good standing?

A member is considered to be in good standing under our by-laws when they are current on all financial obligations to the synagogue, which requires the payment of at least one half of the current year membership dues, the payment of all past dues and all past and current religious school tuition, nursery school tuition and contributions to the building fund, unless a special financial arrangement has been made with Steve Friedman, our Chief Operating Officer. If a special financial arrangement has been made, then the member is deemed in good standing if the member is current on all financial obligations under the special arrangement. We encourage any member who needs a special financial arrangement to speak to me on a private and confidential basis as soon as possible, by calling (203) 542-7155, or emailing me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Tickets for Out-of-Town Guests and Local Family Members:

We realize that many of our members have out-of-town family and guests who would like to join you for the High Holidays. We have made it easier for your family and guests to join you by allowing you to purchase a single service ticket for $75 per ticket, or a full service set of tickets for $225. Similarly you may also purchase a single service ticket for $75 per ticket, or a full service set of tickets for $225 for children and siblings ages 25 to 29 who are residents of the local communities of Greenwich, Port Chester, Armonk, Rye Brook, Rye, Harrison, Purchase, Bedford, White Plains, Stamford and Darien. We have extended our granting of reciprocal tickets from members of only other Conservative synagogues to now include members in good standing of Reform, Reconstructionist, Orthodox or Independent Jewish synagogues that charge a minimum membership fee, which includes High Holidays seats, of $1,000 or more per year in order to further welcome members that have paid dues to other congregations.

Tickets for Unaffiliated Residents:

We also invite new and existing local unaffiliated residents who have not been members of Temple Sholom in the past two fiscal years to try our High Holiday services on a one-time basis. Our goal is to welcome new and existing unaffiliated residents to our synagogue for the High Holidays with the hope that, after attending our services and meeting our wonderful clergy, staff and congregants, they will decide to join our synagogue and contribute to our community. This offer will extend to residents of the local communities of Greenwich, Port Chester, Armonk, Rye Brook, Rye, Harrison, Purchase, Bedford, White Plains, Stamford and Darien. Any (half year or more) residents of these local communities who have tried us out on a one-time basis for High Holiday services on a complimentary basis, and, who are not otherwise subject to reciprocity as noted above, will in future years be required to be members of Temple Sholom in order to receive tickets. Any potential member who needs a special financial arrangement is encouraged to speak to Steve Friedman on a private and confidential basis.

Full-time college students and full-time post-graduate students at local schools within a ten (10) mile radius of the synagogue are also eligible to receive complimentary tickets.

All tickets will have the name of each ticket holder printed on them and are non-transferable.  Tickets are required for admittance to Services at Temple Sholom and for Family Services held at Greenwich High School and Parish Hall. The Young Children’s Service held in the Main sanctuary after services on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur is open to the community and does not require a ticket. Admission to this service will begin 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the service.

If you need to purchase tickets for guests, please fill out the enclosed guest ticket order form.  If your guests are members in good standing at another synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) please use the enclosed USCJ High Holy Day Reciprocal Seating Request form. Please note: this form must be completed and signed by your guest’s congregation. If your guest is a member in good standing of a Reform, Reconstructionist, Orthodox, or Independent Jewish Synagogue, there is a different form, also enclosed. Local residents requesting complimentary tickets on a one time basis, as well as full-time college and post-graduate students of local schools, should also contact Megan McDermott at (203) 542-7156.

Please note that all forms must be filled out completely in order to be accepted and returned to the synagogue office by September 1st, 2011 so that they can be reviewed and tickets issued prior to the High Holidays. As you know the synagogue office is very busy during the next several weeks and your complete and timely submission of these forms is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions or need a special financial arrangement, please feel free to contact me at (203) 542-7155, or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible to make sure all of your needs are met well in advance of the high holidays.
