Youth Groups

Youth Groups

Temple Sholom offers active youth programs for children in 2nd through 12th grades. Scroll down to see our upcoming events!

Youth groups at Temple Sholom combine social, educational, religious and social action programs to create opportunities for the synagogue’s children to create lasting friendships with each other and a strong connection to the Jewish community. All these groups provide a variety of age-appropriate, informal educational activities. Children of all Temple Sholom members are encouraged to participate in our youth activities programs. Participation in our youth groups is also open to non-members. Our four youth groups are:

B’yachad: (2nd - 3rd grade)
Children meet monthly to create arts & crafts projects, make ice-cream sundaes, watch movies, play games or cook.

Ruach: (4th - 5th grade)
Meets once a month, usually rotating between an on-site program and an off-premises program.

Kadima: (6th - 8th grade)
A stepping stone for participation in USY, Kadima’s monthly programs provide social, athletic and recreational opportunities, often incorporating a mitzvah component. Our chapter also enjoys participation in several of the regional programs that METNY offers.

USY: (9th - 12th grade)
“USYers” meet several times a month and take pride in extensive community service and social action projects. Other USY programs include Shabbat services, trips to comedy clubs, celebrating Jewish holidays together and much more. USY has its own board and works with the Youth Director to plan social, athletic and recreational programs for its members. USY also creates programs to raise money for tzedakah, with the group determining where funds raised should go. Our USY chapter is part of the METNY region and members can participate in regional and national programs. There are three major events every year; Kinnus: a weekend retreat in the winter, a convention in the spring, and a 9-day Encampment in the Berkshires at the end of the summer. The Koach Divisional USY, to which our group belongs, includes the Bronx, Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland Counties.
